Nokia N900 which is a full-qwerty keyboard mobile computer with CPU ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz processor, PowerVR SGX graphics and up to 1GB memory (256 MB RAM and 768 MB virtual memory). Delivering exceptional power enabling you to run all your applications quickly, smoothly, & simultaneously. Was powered by Maemo 5 OS, now gets upgrade to Android 2.3.1 (Gingerbread). Android 2.3 is almost exactly where Android needs to be to take the next step but real deal is Android 3.0 “Honeycomb” OS. Android 2.3 Gingerbread won’t step the OS up to 3.0 status, so you’ll have to wait until the next major platform update. However, it’s been a while Nokia N900 getting an Android hack. Nokia N900 always enjoy the Android Platform as last time it worked with Froyo and this time it comes with Gingerbread. N900 is digesting gingerbread with relative ease as Wi-Fi, 3G, Sound and other features working. However, there are some niggles that still require addressing. N900 really lives up to its reputation as being one of if not the most hack able phone around. A publicly available experimental release will come before the year's end for stability for such enthusiastic people who want to get Gingerbread on Nokia N900. A release version is tipped for distribution at around the New Year. Whereas, T-Mobile G2 and Google Nexus one also enjoyed the taste of Gingerbread.
Have a glance at the some of the new features of Android 2.3.1 (Gingerbread)
User Interface
The user interface is refined in many ways across the system, making it easier to learn, faster to use, and more power-efficient. Gingerbread has partly unified the look and feel of Android's controls behind a dark theme with Orange highlights. Changes in menus and settings make it easier for the user to navigate and control the features of the system and device. Gingerbread looks more consistent across its many aspects menus, widgets, apps, and all.
Text Input
The soft keyboard is redesigned and optimized for faster text input and editing. The keyboard adds the capability to correct entered words from suggestions in the dictionary. There's still some press-and-hold, but selecting text got a lot easier and to paste. When you're trying to move your cursor around to fix up your text, a new handle appears diagonally to the actual cursor, and it's a lot easier to grab onto and move about.
Power Management
The Android system takes a more active role in managing apps that are keeping the device awake for too long or that are consuming CPU while running in the background. By managing such apps closing them if appropriate the system helps ensure best possible performance and maximum battery life. With android 2.3 you can get detailed reports on the apps running on your phone, and how much storage space, battery power, and memory they're using up.
Camera Selection
With this operating system on Nokia N900, the Camera app makes it easy to pick between both of your lenses for pictures or video (front and rear).
